It is Saturday, and the city centre is crowded. It is really summer time, we have hot temperature about 30 degrees celcius. Today I want to take some pictures of the famous QVB or Queen Victoria Building, which houses 5 levels of the most fantastic boutiques. You can really find everything in here, shoppers heaven ! Underground are the more plain shops you can find everywhere, together connected with a network of other gallery malls and an underground station. On the first floor is an Australian ice cream bar which I still have to try out, with huge mountains of ice and a chocolate fountain. On the third floor there is a nice jewelry shop, where I bought a black opal. Black opals are found only in 5% of the production. So this time no more paintings or typical cloths or art, but a gemstone, only to be found in 1 single Australian desert town: Lightningtown.
In the afternoon I set off walking to the Rocks. From there you can take some 100 stairs to get onto the harbour bridge to cross it as a pedestrian. The sidewalk is not very nice, it looks like Guantanamo bay with fences and stuff, so that people would not jump off. Anyway, you can get a pretty nice view from the opera house and the skyline of CBD. The bridge itself is also impressive in size. There are 8 parallel traffic lines. Once you are on the other side of the bridge, the view is splendid. I had a nice sushi (Japanese raw fish with rice in rolls) there.
